The Left Outsides are a South London based duo, Mark Nicholas and Alison Cotton (ex Saloon). The two also contribute to the rhythm section of 18th Day Of May.
Leaving The Frozen Butterflies Behind is their debut release and features four songs split between original compositions and cover versions. The title track is an absolutely gorgeous lo-fi song that is drenched in psychedelic influenced folk music. They take some of the harshness away from the cover of Brian Jonestown Massacre's Ballad Of Jim Jones but it stays truthful to the original. Take Me To The Other Side is not a cover version of the Spaceman Three track but still owes something to Sonic Boom and the other spacemen with it's 60s acid garage undertones. Final track is a reworking of Mercury Rev's Goddess On A Highway with Alison's viola and voice adding some spine tingling ethereal moments.
This is a smashing EP which takes some of the sting out of life. They are not going to be left outside for long so light a fire and invite them in.......
