We Heart Rock - Teen Anthems
Sonic Art Union

Teen Anthems is a collection of mainly 7” vinyl tracks released a few years back on the Sonic Art Union Label. There are four bands on this compilation and they all seem to be the work of one John William Davies.
The release screams its DIY ethos at you – from the cover to the fact that the fifteen tracks are all done and dusted in just over 30 minutes. It calls itself indie-pop, punk-pop and erm, slitch-pop too.
Teen Anthems (the band, not the compilation) produce the albums finest moments with the Helen Love inspired works of art that are “What A Girl Wants”, “Welsh Bands Suck” and the excellent “I Hate Oasis (And I Hate The Beatles)” echoing thoughts I have had for years.
Supercute proclaim their love for “Jamie Theakston” and also demand “Gimme Indie Pop” which are two slices of fanzine pop goodness. Sadly there has to be a down side and this happens to be the Steps Pistols who produce some of the worse music I have heard for years. Worse offender is “Holidays In The Sun” which has a pounding bang your head against the wall until you are unconscious happy hardcore beat accompanied by Whigfield on helium vocals. Even my cats were scared.
How I missed all this first time around I don’t know but it’s a great album as long as you skip the Steps Pistols tracks.
