Cranebuilders
So What Could I Do / Trouble Is...
Skinny Dog
Article
written by James S
Dec 1, 2004.
Liverpool’s Cranebuilders continue the barely-noticeable creep into the indie nation’s consciousness that began predictably with the support of a certain sadly missed DJ that I’m really trying not to mention in any more reviews. The pick of this double A-sided single is actually the effective flip-side Trouble Is…, which combines the funereal melancholic charm of Tindersticks with the warm and gentle grace of Hermann Dune, with a vocal nod to the former in particular.
So What Could I Do also bears the hallmarks of both bands but turns the tune into a two-and-a-half minute pop song that pleases but never quite fully convinces. With their debut album due early next year, there’s still plenty for them to build on though.
