Shade Tree Murder Inside

This EP has been out for a while now and has criminally escaped my attention. Shade Tree is Swedish singer song writer Carl Jonnson and friend (s?).

The whole EP has an unashamedly alt-country feel about it and is dominated by Jonsson’s fine Americana style singing supplemented by standout female backing vocals. “Undertow”, a track as good as anything else you will hear this year, dominates the proceedings but that is not to say the other tracks don’t deserve a listen. The title track is almost as good whilst “Tears Are On Our Side” is a moving song. The un-named female vocalist takes centre stage on “Cold Pale Morning Light” which unwinds and shines through is four plus minutes.
